I think I read somewhere that zeolite is not so effectiveness in salt water....

i have not seen that but i thot zeolite is exact what marine keepers need to get their water close to sea water.

something that im confused... some sites said that it can be recycled by dipping into hot water but captiveocean.com mentioned it can last 8-12 weeks with no mention of recycling.

From my understanding, zeolite for freshwater can remove nitrate in the freshwater condition, recharge by putting the used zeolite in brine solution (very salty solution-thinking equivalent or more salty to seawater).

As for saltwater, there is a zeovit method which is using a certain high grade kind of zeolite (there are a few hundreds different kind of zeolite in the world). I would never try to use normal zeolite in an establish reef tank as you wont know what will happen.

Hope it helps
