Kick-Ich By Ruby Reef

After getting my very first Ich Magnet (AT), I have been battling with ich for the past week.

Since I have already added my AT into my display, and the Ich still persist, I have no choice but to look for a solution that can:

1. Eradicate the *&%#^@ Ich, pardon my french.

2. Safe enough for my mixed reef display.

Below are the info from the bottle:

Reef safe KICK-ICH ™ is a water treatment for the control of ich in marine and freshwater aquaria. It has been scientifically formulated to eliminate the free swimming, infectious stage of the ich life cycle while being safe for all freshwater and marine aquaria. KICK-ICH ™ has a long shelf life at room temperature and is supplied in easy to use, self dosing bottles. Safe for all fish, corals, invertebrates and macroalgae, as well as the facultative anaerobes and nitrifying bacteria essential to biologic filtration.

Safe to use in combination with Rally.

Instructions:

Beginning on day 1 add 2.0 oz of KICK-ICH ™ for each 25 gallons of total water volume for the entire aquarium and filter systems. Repeat on days 4, 7, 10, and 13 whether or not spots continue to be visible. Do not use carbon or similar absorbent media during treatment.

Gouldian....I use it previously as well......but......was too late for me.......in fact I use 2 bottles........so far my tank quite ok liao (I believe)......its been like probably 1.5 month ago.

Only recently, I have introduce a Naso tang.......but still see a couple of white spots (3-4 white spots only).......Sigh! .......even on my newly acquired Bazilian Gamma also have a couple of white spot..........monitoring very closely also..... :fear:

Remember to continue the whole cycle of the treatment even though you dont see any white spot.........and switch off the PS if possible....or maybe run it for a couple of hours a day. Then try total darkness during your off-photo period......and if possible reduce the photo period also.....

May the force be with you and AT!!!! ;)

I've mail ordered 1 bottle 2 years ago from states. Finish it within 2 days coz my tank is big. Does not work very well for me coz coz the treatment period was to short to wipe out the ick effectively. I think it will work if you follow the recommendated dosage, but it well be very costly especially for big tank.

After invested in UV and running it 24hrs, never got ick problem anymore ;)

I think U should try using UV sterlizer and garlic LS's food!

I also have Ich problem when one Blue Tang is added into my tank 3 month ago :( . I have bought many of ich medicine but none of them work so i decided to buy UV sterlizer (kill the floating parasite) and of cause garlic food must be supplied together( build up the LS's immunity).

Surprisely, all the ichness gone within two weeks. :D -- "my personnel experience"

10/09/04 8am. Ich still on AT, rest of fish not affected. Waiting to dose as per instruction tonight.

By the way, I am using UV too, the UV is all the while on a 10hrs shift but ich still appears. I chose not to increase the UV timing as I wanted to see whether the Kick-Ich is working.

imho..its still your water perimeters n tank maturity tat counts. when i was new to this hobby, all my fishes seem to suffer from ich. even dumping medicine, UV..still no use. now with more knowledge n patience, i realise tat even without doing anything, my tangs r able to recover from ich on their own.

my 2 cents :)

Used 2 bottles before... seems to control ick to some extend but they came back once you stopped using it...

Now swear by Kent Marine Extreme Garlic soaked food (my fishes seems to love this particular brand compared to self-squeezed garlic) .... just feed diligently everyday for about a month and it goes away... survived a few rounds of ick outbreak already... (no patience to quarantine the fishes... )

12/09/04, 8am - 12am. All LS without Ich except for AT. I am beginning to wonder whether it is just the fish or the medication just isn't good enough.:unsure:

By the way, I have double the dosage of Kick-Ich from 2oz for 3oz per 10Gal.

Will observed and report back.

Ich will come on and off....i think that unless your start a new, it will be hard to complete kill off all the ich in your tank....try not to dose too much medication....it will worsten the condition of the tank making all your LS more stress....worst....you might develop a multated ich that is resistance to the ich medicine....

If want to treat then make a quick decision to treat. Else just leave it and let the fish fight it out.

Usually people leaves till the fish is very seriously infected by the ich before they take action like dose medication etc. End up the fish is not killed by the ich but rather by the added stress.

Dear fellow reefers,

I decided to close this thread cuz I really found no improvement to the ich on my AT.

I do not know whether the medication is too mild that it is unable to eradicate the ich on my AT. Or it is just my AT's ich is just too stubborn!

Anyway, I verdict is:

1. All my other fishes id free from ich except AT

2. All my invertebrates including crocea, maxima and LPS did not show signs of stress.

3. I will ONLY try medication as a last resort in the future

4. I am currently concentrating of enticing the AT to eat so that it will beat the *%$#@ ich on its own

5. Invest on another UV rated for my current tank ;)

Thank you all for the kind advises and well wishes. Deeply indebted.:bow::bow:
