underrated chiller ???

No giant tank, just confirming what the originator of this thread said, the power output of the chiller, or the readings taken from the internal controller of the chiller is not always represntative of the actual temp and temperature drop of the tank.

For example the chiller may run for x hours and record y temp drop. The tank may not refelct this y temp drop since the chiller is recording from the inlet, outlet or middle of the heat exchanger which is usually several degrees below the temp of the tank. Run continiuosly like this, a stable tank temp can be maintained

Many people rely on the internal temp probe. I had a 1hp chiller run on the internal controller, it ran on and off, giving the impression of fast and very efficient cooling. When i ran the same chiller from an external probe, it ran for hours and hours and the impression it was not efficient.

After running 7 differnt chillers over more than 10 years, i feel i have a reasonable experience on this.

I know of two reefers who are using the 1/2hp artica commerical chiller and controlling via external temp probe via the IKS. No problem on cooling down their 1000L tank :P

I agree with what you said regarding the internal temp probe. However for a properly designed chiller that should not be an issue. ie thermostat outside the heat exchanger and at the water inlet line.

You can cross check the actual temp with a external thermometer in the main tank as well and that will tell the whole story.
