Movie: Open Water

Has anyone watched the movie Open Water? At the end of the show, they actually showed you how they fished out a shark, sliced its 2 fins off, then cut the under belly so that they can dig through its stomach to show you what the shark had swallowed. And would you believe it, they fish out an underwater camera that was used in the show (where the male lead lost it when he was lost at sea).

That would mean that they purposely allowed a shark to swallow the damn camera, then killed the shark and show you where the camera is in its body!

You can even hear the crew who were slicing the shark up laughing as they find the camera.

I think that footage was very unnecessary and appears that the shark was killed just to show the camera it swallowed.

Mammals were harmed in the making of this production and they have trivalized the mortality of sharks.

I am outraged by their actions and I hope fellow reefers will do their bit by protesting against this cruel and inhumane act.

Hmm, actually if they did fish it up and eat the shark it will fine.

I think shark steak tastes pretty awful.

Yes, the footage was shown at the end of the movie when the credits were rolling.

I advocate the protection of sharks and would never have sharks' fins.

You can do the same too just by politely saying 'no thank you'.

Do we have a campaign going on or something? I wish to have this matter campaigned against.

I have already e-mailed to 2 sharks confederation about this matter. I am short of e-mailing the senator from America who happens to be pushing the same bill in protection of sharks.

I really hope someone does something about it.

Meanwhile, I want to hold a campaign for protection of sharks locally. Anyone has any idea or keen to help out?

Please, I need all the assistance I can.

Thanks alot pals!

Erm, I have a suggestion for you Yuji, Speakers corners turn 4 yrs old. Well, maybe you can go there and tell the public about it... ;) maybe some of us will go there and support you.

It would be more effective than doing those posters, internet "spam" emails etc. :)

locally?

1) we don't really have many species that live locally: So the most you can do is to educate the public about protecting those that are overseas.

2) Many large corporations have interests which are ....... not shark friendly, pollution, drift net trawling, sharks fin ...etc ...etc (literally too many to list). Dont' for one minute think that the people in charge will give a donkeys about shark conservation. $ is god to them. Just look at the Sentosa dolphin fiasco. It is well documented that dolphins suffer in captivity. Further it is already known that they dolphins were brought in under false declarations. Anyway, I am sidetracking from sharks to dolphins, what i am trying to say here is where industry dollar meets enviroment in Singapore, most of the time..... industry wins.
