SRC Member sugi Posted August 27, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted August 27, 2004 Just visited Commex and saw APC power back up. ES series 500VA 300W. Able to support 20 min of desktop PC and 17" monitor. Has anyone us this before ? Usual price is $89 but Commex price $69. Decided to buy one and try to back up my Tunze and see how long can it sustain. Rgds

SRC Member AlfaRomeo Posted August 27, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted August 27, 2004 Weileong, Whats the difference between the smart UPS and this series? I think still can run the Tunze streams rite?
weileong
The smart UPS series produces true sine wave. The non-smart UPS produces a stepped sine wave. I've not tried running my tunze with the ES series but Roidan has tried and he can relate more abt the results Quote Weileong's 4ft tank Part I Weileong's 4ft tank Part II
roidan
the output from the stream decreased using stepped sine wave UPS... from my personal observation. Quote Advanced Aquarist (March05)

weileong
Just get the batteries change, they aren't that $$$. I got mine changed few weeks back, there's a shop at the basement of SLT that sells the gel cell. Just tell them the rating and they will give you the correct one. It's all standard sized. No need to waste money get original APC one Quote Weileong's 4ft tank Part I Weileong's 4ft tank Part II

firestream
I always wonder is that possible to connect those APC to normal car battery ... which is cheaper & offer larger capacity .... hee hee.
weileong
You can of course but it is back to charging cycle you might blow the charging circuitry due to the high surge current. Car batteries are useless for deep cycling purpose. Get a deep cycle battery Quote Weileong's 4ft tank Part I Weileong's 4ft tank Part II
