Cyno are best prevented by: 1. increasing water flow 2. reduce feeding 3. improve skimming Last resort is to nuke it with "Red Slime Remover" but bear in mind that it is a anti-bacteria and thus use with caution. SRC Member tineng Posted August 25, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted August 25, 2004 Cyno are bacteria and not algae thus the crab you are looking for does not exist. not too sure if they are algae or not...but then they are called cyanobacteria so i guess you are right..... but some hermit crabs DO eat them....i've seen them eating!!!! but then i came to realize that end of the day its good husbandry that counts....using crabs or slime remover is just short term solution and does not really get to the root of the problem....in fact they cause other sets of problems! Gouldian
Crab, like all deritus feeders will eat anything that they can reach. When you see them eating, they are eating the by-product of Cynos not the bacteria itself. Quote "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Dr. J.E.N. Dust to debris has a point. Maybe can consider some bottom dweller to move the sand. Quote "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Dr. J.E.N.
