I am in dilema of choosing the appropriate return pump for my new 3.5Ft Tank.

Looking for low wattage and yet affordable and strong. :D

Any suggestion ?

How about these pumps:

1. MD55 3600L/Hr 130W $170

2. Quiet One 6000L/Hr 110W $200

3. Dynamx 5000L/Hr 65W ? $100

For MD55, it seems it is wasting too much power for 3600L delivery.

Furthermore, we do not need pressure rated for Return pump.

Can anyone share what are the pumps that you are using for your return pump ?

:thanks:

If your return pipe is 25mm it can handle more than 5500l/hr definitely.

Pump recommendation - 2 x Rio hyper flow 32F 7200l/hr 120W $138

That will give you a good 14000l/hr flowrate and a good 30X turnover rate (excluding your circulation pumps)

Review from oversea forums that this new range of Rio pumps is quite cheap & powerful...........so far no problems found yet. So to play it safe, use 2 pumps and Tee off to other equipments. In case one fails, still have the other.

Aqua-Medic's Ocean Runner 2500 --- 2500l/h - retail $195

Very quiet and very low heat.. consumes only 38w and max head 2.6m

The only bad thing i can think of is the price... :P

If u want higher flow rate then can take the 3500l/h.. I'm using it.. very happy with it...

Lighting Strike,

My overflow will outside attach to the tank.

I can make as big as i want, so return capacity should not be a problem.

Mostlikely will drill 2 x 30mm hole for the return to the sump.

That will be cool sugi..........plan it with a closed loop and link the closed loop pump to a UPS in case power failure.

For closed loop, a 3000l/hr pump (low power consumption) with 2 outlets would be sufficent.

Thanks for all the advice.

Has anyone use these brand ?

2. Quiet One 6000L/Hr 110W $200

3. Dynamx 5000L/Hr 65W ? $100

They can be used as external so not much heat generated.

As for Dynamax 65w only with 5000l/hr.

Sound good. Use 2 = 130W = 10000L/hr

Anyone has comment on the above ?

You better double comfirm on the Dymax wattage........the box says 65W but the sticker inside maybe 130W or more........that's wat I found out when I was searching for my return pump.

hi sugi, then it shld not be a problem. ;) but do give considerations to the flowrate, price, wattage, head loss, authencity of manufacturer rated wattage and flowrate, etc.

some china-made and taiwanese pumps r not rated as they r supposed to be.

how abt the italian brand sicce suprema? it shld be within ur budget and it is rated at 4000L/Hr. ;)
