Tangs problem : (

Recommended Posts

i have a 2" powder blue tang in my tank, and recently i introduced a 2.5" powder brown tang to it. the powder blue was quite 'aggressive' and chased the brown one around the tank. they both also circled around each other too.

then i noticed that my powder blue had white bars appearing on its body.

a while later, my brown tang also had bars appearing on its body.

can i noe wat does the 'bars' mean? tks.

IMHO, too small for more than 1 tang. They will fight for territory esp since you have an aggresive powder blue which has already staked out its territory. You might wanna rearranged your reef to confuse the dominate powder blue.

the powder blue used to occupy the live rock area, i guess tats its territory so and i have rearranged the live rocks a little bit more to have more 'hiding places'.. so that my powder brown can hide..

but after rearranging, the powder blue is being kicked out of the live rock area, and tat area is now being occupied by the powder brown.. :P

Try the mirror trick, it works. I have 5 tangs currently in my 3.5' tank. Place the mirror where the powder blue likes to hang out and it will distract it.

thanks.. now the powder is being kicked out of its territory and wandering on the outside of the live rock.. once a while, it will chase the powder brown..

neokn, you have 5 tangs in a 3.5'? wow.. that is an accomplishment indeed. will have to learn from you. I was thinking that i was already pushing it with 4 tangs in a 6'

I used to have 4 tangs (more than 1 year) in a 2.5 x 2 x 2 with 10 other fishes and LPS etc... real pushing of my luck right.... :)

Sold them off recently as I am changing to school fishes like green chromis and gobies and blennys. But they got along very well, I guess it helps if you put them in at the same time.

you are in for BIG BIG trouble man...

the main reason for me to keep low LS is to maintain low bio load..and also that i dun have a skimmer...hehehehe

but if u are thinking of FOWLR, then it shouldn't be a prob but still must do constant check on your parameters...

if the fishes are happy, then dun bother...i personally prefer more corals than more fishes...

what's skimmer are you using??? IMO most important abt reef keeping if that you must enjoy it. If you like what you are having now then by all means go ahead :P But the end results you have to answer for yourself :P
