normally they will shrink to the skeleton. meat tends to rot 1st.

did u notice any fishes pecking at it when u had them? or is the current blowing directing? too strong perhaps? ;)

i had mine recently which i notice it did not open beautifully due to the high flow of current. after i placed them in another way, beautiful! feed them with bits of prawns & they'll luv it! open like nobody business. but their tentacles....kinda....sticky thou. <_<

Is that why most people like to place their elegance at the sand bed? To keep them away from the strong lights?

ppl place the elegance on the sandbed mainly becos that's how elegance are found in nature. There has been some controvesy in regards to lighting requirements for elegance , while in nature elegance thrive on murky waters with weeds growing above them ( heard that wakiki aquarium in usa replicate this ), in closed system it generally require more light , imo more due to the fact that more photosynthetic activities are required to compensate for lost of nutrient rich water in nature. This is why some reefers suggest that turning off skimmers may show some great results on Elegance and Gonios....

A good way to know if yr Elegance is on the substrate in nature or on rocks is to observe the skeleton part. If it is a conical shaped , then yr elegance used to rest on the floorbed... otherwise it is chiseled off the LR. Try repositioning yr elegance and see if it helps.... MH 150Wis more than enough....i know of someone who kept elegance for 3 yrs using only T8!.

how do you know if your elegance corals is dying? is it that they never open up? how do you feed them? bits of prawn meat? thks :D

Occasionally I feed my elegance with brine shrimps or cut prawn meats.......maybe once in two weeks............I use to feed them once every two days, but read up and found out its not too good to feed them too often as they might not be able to digest fully and that will rot inside them. So I leave it to their natural energy source which is Light.

Btw, I placed my elegance on a tonga branch somewhere 20" from my 250W 20K MH and it seems to open big big everytime the lights came on and the water flow sweeping at its direction. My elegance base is the cone type which suppose to be from the sandbed I guess, but nevertheless if its happy at where it is, I shall not disturb it.
