over the weekend, some @rse diverted his number to my mobile number and started SMSing obscene nonsense to various people (whom i do not know).

imagine my surprise when these people started calling me and immediately assumed i was the @rse! thankfully, they are quite understanding when i explained to them that the hoaxer has diverted his number.

upon investigation , i found out that his/her number is a Singtel pre-paid SIM card's and Singtel told me that there is no way they can find out who the person is (registration not required for purchase of pre-paid cards).

i find this shocking. what if the hoax is of a grander scale and the police needs to find/kill him???!!!!

would appreciate it if you can share if you have similar experiences and if you know registration is required for pre-paid cards.

maybe u can try to check with ST again... becuz they have to fill up some form when they buy pre-paid card....

i'll take your word for it. i've asked ST to disable his divertion and they actually managed to speak to him (some teengae punk, apparently)

as long as there's registration, i'm sure he's pissing in his pants now cause he knows there's a probability of him being traced

Even if it's prepaid simcard, there is way to track where the simcard is , as long as mobile phone is switched on long enough.

However, it's expensive process so normally law enformance won't try that trick for normal case.

As long as u r not the person who send out that kind of SMS , don't worry police won't chease you.

However, if police want to nap some bad guy ( serious enough to spent money ), and using prepaid simcard, don't worry they know how to.

Technology has proven and last raid in if I am not wrong in Turkey, used that technology to trace the bad guy who was using prepaid simcard.

I am not expert in that area, however did once b4 so know how this technology.
