Thickness of glass

Hi Guys,

My friend was asking me for the recommended thickness of glass tank of the size 6x2.5x2.5ft marine. He intends to custom make the tank, but would rather hear from experience reefer than to shops that out to make money.

15mm would be idle. 12mm not sure.

I have the same exact tank size and mine is 15mm on all sides and bottom glass plus eurobracing on top and bottom.

Tell your friend that 15mm is recommended as minimum due to the overall weight of tha tank which will exceed 1ton..

Also, pay particular attention to the stand that will be holding up the tank...dunt play2 with 1 ton worth of saltwater unless he dunt mind having a swimming pool in his living room...

I guess a full euro bracing at the top and bottom is a must. What he told me, he will be making a cabinet tank.

Yup, its a must for euro-bracing at the top and bottom to further stregthen the structure.

For a tank of his size, get a reputable tank-maker and pls dunt just use the cheapest tank-maker he can find. In this instance, cheap is definately not the best.

Giant tanks too expensive too maintain, at least for the case of reef tanks, too heavy on the pocket.
