wow so high how u do that one... ???

make sure u got a gd test kit and double check your figure is correct.

If cal is high, do nothing and let it drop unless u see stress in your LS then do a 20% water change. You should be able to notice a drop in your cal (since most salt are not rich in cal expect some brand that state it)

huh?!!! 820??!!!

What are your LS & corals if I may ask?

I would reckon that you try testing it again with another test kit.

In any case, you can do some water change gradually over a few days so as not to shock your LS!

I am having this problem also.....>500......but I left it to drop by itself as I have LPS mostly in my tank thus the Cal. level will deplete slowly......Mistake for me.....overdose without testing!!! <_<

Hi Minsmarine,,,,I didnt catch the joke.....what do you mean......

What type of test kit are you using? Some test kit are not very accurate.

If your calcium is really that high and your dKH is low that 9. You can dose Reef Builder. It will increase your dKH and at the same time reduce the calcium.

yes go get a salifert test kit and test it out....

if really 820, I wonder how u achieve that.. u pour the whole container of cal into your tank huh.. hehehe joking..

anyway if really 820 go do a water change start off with 10% on day 1 then day 2 another 10% then day 3 another 10% then check again if cal at what level if around 500 then u can just let it drop by itself.

Also how big your tank is huh... cause if your tank is very small then u have to be careful and not to have too huge amount of water parameter change in a short time.

Hi Minsmarine,,,,I didnt catch the joke.....what do you mean......

No joke lar, I used that salt, bit ex as well and give my Ca reading like 800 also.

Changed water, reduce feeding , stall around 600+;

So I suspect that might be SALT, nothing else.

Cause I have no coral chip, no Ca topup, weekly water change.

I read on RC ppl were talking about could be salt as well. So .......

When I back to SG I have to test again and again to confirm it's salt. Will keep you post as well.

No joke one point of the time my Ca reading was 880  Same test kit ( Sear , I know it's not reliable but giving me good reading b4 like 480 ).

Just sharing

Dont worry......do a gradual water change........and test the Cal again..... ;) ...If possible borrow a test kit of different brand to test it......just to make sure you have the correct value.......I myself damn Kia Su......got 2 Cal test kit....hehehe :P

I do not think high Cal is toxic so dont panic.....hahahaha :lol:

my tank size: 4ft x 1.5ft x 2ft

but why is it that my corals are not opening.....

Go to this site:

www.advancedaquarist.com

Search for Calcium and Alkalinity......you should be able to find how to handle this two chemistry in reef tanks...... ;)

cannot recall right now, but i believe you have to multiply the number of test droplets by a certain numeral to obtain the Ca reading.

just make sure you re-read the instructions again.

Ca 540 is quite ok. Especially if you have clams and sps. ;-)
