Hi all,

bought a blue legged hermit today after being told it was reef-safe... does anyone keep one? Would the hermit attack my snails? I'm juz concerned coz I like my orange-spotted snails alot... :)

Pls advise... Thanxs!

All hermits no matter how herbivorous in nature will attack snails if they do not have enough shells to accomodate their growth.. Just give lots of extra shells on the sandbed and they should leave your snails alone.

Always something more important than fish.

Forget to add that if they don't have enough shells they will end up fighting over shells...A cramped hermit might pull a small hermit out of a larger shell if it chooses to. Avoid mixing species..they might kill each other if not enough shells are present. I've had peaceful (at least to fish and most inverts) dwarf zebra hermits which I witnessed pull out small dull hermits (which I took from the beach) out of their shells and kill them.

Always something more important than fish.

You don't actually have to worry about hermit and snail if your snail is smaller than the hermit. They will not be interested in shells that are smaller.

Well, I'm worried juz in case coz those orange-spotted snails are pretty rare... Only seen one shipment b4.... :(
