removal of bracing

I have a 10mm 3 ft long, 1.5 wide and 2 ft depth tank with a middle brace. Directly over my 400w so I removed it one night, and siliconed it to one side. Tank bowed. You can just see the curve if I remove my hood. However, the glass held and no additional bend since. Seriously, are you prepared to take the risk? My advice, save yourself the sleepless nights. Change your MH light setup instead.

Get some glass bracing from the glass maker and silicon and leave to cure fully. Then carefully remove out the old one. How thick is your glass? How high is your tank? I suspect you cant run on just a centre bracing (unless its damn wide) as yours is a 5footer.

But seriosuly, wait till you see my bowed 10mm then you know the meaning of fear :) but so far, it holds. Finger crossed. Unless you are a daredevil like me, not worth the tension. But hey, the risk sure gives a great high..... :) Live dangerously, I do ... un decholrinated water for top off gasp shock horror, salt mixed and dumped into tank in 15 min.... faint, no acclimitization to 400w MH... heart thumps.

No fear!

personally, i have no experience in bracing, either to add or remove.

but have this piece of advice to give, with due consideration to the consequences.

"Don't fix it, unless it is broken".

So, if after your modifications, and its broken, what are the consequences ?

I think not worth taking the risk lah... having a tank of salt water all over your floor is not a good experience....not to talk about the life of coral/fish you are putting at risk.

Furthermore, since the tank is already in use. The salt particle and moisture may affect the strength of the new silicon that you are going to put in. So it may not stick well.
