What Angel Fish are Reef Safe

Yeah...from my personal experience, angel are not exactly reef safe fish....even if it does not attack your coral now, it is only a matter of time.

I have a blueface, and it has been behaving itself for the last 3 months, and everyday I feed like mad. About 6-7 cubes of frozen brine shrimp a day just for the blueface. After a while, I find it hard to keep up with it's appetite coz it is always hungry....the stomach blow up like anything but still eating. So when I don't feed it enough, it will start to nip on my coral. So far, I have 2 clams died, a few soft coral (christmas tree) and geogoran got attacked. But I'm still keeping it. I guess it depends on what you like. To me, blueface is more beautiful than some fat and meaty brain or clams...so it is a balancing act...you cannot have the best of both world...so you have to pick and choose what you want in your tank.

As for Watanabe's Angelfish, I was told that it is reef safe, but it looks like a big damsel fish to me...so there is no appeal for me.

Cheers,

Patrick

Hi,

The ONLY reef save ANGELFISH is Watanabe's Angelfish(Genicanthus watanabei)

This Angelfish is absolutely reef save.

Got this info from book name "REEF SECRETS" by Alf Jacob Nilsen & Svein A. Fossa.

Hope this help. :peace:

No they are not....... yes they maybe one of the most reef safe angel fish... some cases watanabei or swallow tail species angel may still go for your corals......

My fren's male watanabei was attacking at his sps polyps till he catch up and sell way
