Thanks Phang, for the Green Mandarin, it is such a lovable fellow.

Unfortunately, my yellow-tail blue damsel is jealous and is always trying to disturb him. I tried to catch the damsel to either give away or reease it but to no avail. I ambush for 45 mins still can't catch him. This damsel is very sneaky.... and smart.

I use net, with food, etc.

Any suggestion anyone? Thanks!

Empty ya tank water....remove all LRs...and corals....see yellow damsel flipping itself silly on Sand base...u then can either:

1. Use a scissors n cut it into 2...

2. Use a piece of LR (the biggest u can find) and smash it...

3. Inject with Kalk...

4. Place mandarin on it...so that the former's poisonous secrete will take care of the latter naturally.

Hmmm...I hate quarrelsome damsels

But seriously...the yellow tail damsels r pretty small n hence using a fishing hook to 'bait' it is almost impossible.

tis damsel getting very naughty... everything also want to disturb ... including clowns, fan worms, etc.

before my bi-colour angel died, he is quite ok but now he wants to be king!

Hi Guys,

I'm will soon be transferring LiveStock to my new setup....

So got the following that needs new homes...

1) Antenna Lionfish (about 4 inches)

2) Pygmy Angelfish (1.5 inches)

Those that I'm still deciding whether to let go

1) 1 Redfin Longtail (2 inches)

2) 2 Mandarins (1 green and 1 blue)

3) 1 yellow face antenna goby

The first on the list to go must be the Lionfish and Angel...

Anyone interested???

U mean mandarins have poison secretion on their skin?

The secretions have a bit of poison(not enough to harm us) to warn predators from eating it becasue they have no defense otherwise.

yes they are very cute. I read that they are picky eaters and can starve quickly.....anyone wif success of keeping one on frozen food?

I believe someone1 here gave someone2 else a mandarin that was eating frozen mysis.

I bought most of my Mandarins from Kwang.... they all take frozen...

Don't ask me why but they do and so far of all the Mandarins taken from him, only one mortality.... and that is due to power failure....

Can't say so for the other LFS......

Check with Barra and Liverock to see if their Mandarins still taking frozen food......

Yes, Phang... Spotty, the Mandarin takes unfrozen mysis. Last night, I actually saw him ate it for the first time.

It wasn't easy, I have to turn off all the powerheads, etc. so that the water is not circulating. Spotty is quite a picky eater, only takes the mysis when it is right in front of him. If there is one floating 2-3 cm from him, he dun bother. Furthermore, some mysis doesn't seem to sink at all and quite a lot are sucked into the filteration system.

Anyway, I am very happy with Spotty scooting around the rocks as if he is a rock climber

I have a small tank so I can individually named my fishes...

and I have only 4.

The Mandarin was given by Phang and I only have it for a week or so.

Maybe Phang would like to share his experience for this fish?

From what I can gather, it is a peaceful fish that requires lots of LR for hidding, and eating the copods, amphipods, etc.

It is very cute as it hovers like a space ship will transporting himself from one place to another. I must also add that it's face look a bit like of a bird..

the mandarin is doing great picking up copepods ... I did throw in live baby brine shrimps ... no idea whether the mandarin eat them or not

My tank is a small one too.. and still in the cycling mode [though I have no patience at all... just dump ina damsel or 2, and some LR... ]

yes they do eat BBS barra, but only if they're near(or swimming right below the mandarin)

but they do pick at them................take some time & watch.
