A reading on lighting

Some extracts:

"I think that if I hear one more hobbyist complain that there is no book or reference listing the "necessary" lux for all of the beautiful corals he wants to keep, I will laugh myself to incontinence. There are other factors to consider beyond lux readings."

"Issues of water clarity and turbidity instead are grossly underestimated in my opinion."

"Its ironic that many aquarists spend so much money on fixtures, lamps and electricity, yet fail to keep up with simple maintenance tasks to maximize the use of light produced!"

Always something more important than fish.

Really an interesting article..I love this part especially..

"Unless one has a magnificent 20,000 gallon reef aquarium like the jewel at Atlantis in Riverhead, NY, there is no need for most aquarists to have banks of halides in sufficient numbers to dim the neighborhood's lights, melt live rock and make the sun envious.":angel::upsidedown::ph34r:

Came across another article by Anthony Calfo. Hope it's useful. ;)

A quote to think about....something which I think most people (including myself)..did'nt know about elegance corals.

"most of the Catalaphyllia “Elegance” corals collected today (some of these purple-tipped beauties are found in near darkness at almost 30 meters and suffer from light shock on import under bright lamps… indeed significant if not a primary catalyst in the recent plague of difficulties with this genus)."

Always something more important than fish.
