Boxfish - Cam mix with what kind of fishes?

Recommended Posts

They rarely release toxin from my experience... Not easy to keep as they get ich easily... after they get immuned to ich... They are quite a hardy fish... Dun mix with fast moving fishes... They are very slow eater and swimmers... May not be able to complete with other fish for food...

i kept boxfishes before and they were relatively easy to keep. keep it with slow eaters though. if they die, you would have to remove it immediately, otherwise the toxins released will kill other livestocks.

but a boxfish is fun. they are intelligent and seem to interact with me when its feeding time!

My Boxster has been with me for more than a year, almost two by now. Imagine the size of a mahjong dice till the size of the biggest Steadler eraser...

Has ich almost every other day but as long as he eats well and and is not stressed, it ahould be fine... At times, he will even 'tail' my palm and 'wrangle' the food pellets off it. :)

My findings are...

1) Boisterous/ feisty fish stress them a lot.

2) May peck at pipe organ coral and has a fetish for tuveworms. Maybe influenced by his cousins, Cowie the cowfish and Toby, the puffer. :P

3) Steer clear of damsels as these 'chilli-padi' will race and turn aggressive towards boxfish at the first sighting...

4) Eats almost all types of food as long as you get a healthy specimen and get them used to the food. In no time, you will have a lean-mean hungry eating 'machine'...

5) Environment is the most impt issue so as to provide a stressfree surrounding. :)

Here's my Boxster together with his new friends, Abby and Moorish .... :)

i saw another type of fish, dat looks like a boxfish, but its mouth protrudes out

it swims to the surface & squirts water when i am near it..

i tried a few times, and it kips swimming to the surface to squirt water. so amusing..

does this fish also belong to the boxfish family?

No pics, can't tell... :P

Anyway, my boxfish likes to squirt water also...nowadays, I even have to place a cloth near the edges to absorb the water it squirts out.

I never remove Boxster anywhere. But I have to caution you that it is not an easy fish to keep, bearing in mind that it is an ich-magnet. :(

my boxfish also with me for almost 2 years, never know this felle can be that long lasting

to me, fish to avoid is blue/regal tang. bought 1 last year and that felle and my boxfish really synergised ICH growth... all fish in my tank RIP during that outbreak except the boxfish. Surprisingly it recovers quite well after it.

lately the boxfish's ICH condition kinda worsen again and only improved a bit after 5 days blackout quarantine + freshwater dip. :( well now it seems to be more active just hope it can fight off ICh by itself.

it will attack nudibranch but mine leave the tubeworm and coco worm alone.

oh, can be fed by hand :D but watchout it has got little teeth but no threat to you finger yet
