Dear all,

Apart from having a refugium, are there any other way to promote copepod growth in the tank?

I am thinking of keeping a Mandarin fish.

Thank you.

regards

Increase Phytoplankton dosage and give it time...........my 2" Mandarin almost wide out 80% of my pods in 2 weeks. Damn they eat non-stop.

Hi Eric,

I read somewhere that phytoplankton liquid will increase the phosphate level in the tank. Hence, I dont dare to feed too much.

I am currently using Aquaz 100% algae. Since it is less liquid, I am not very sure if it will cause as much phosphate as DT or 5 in 1.

nope

copepods don't need lightings...they're not plants...hehe...they eat phytoplankton so u can go get those kind of food to add into your tanks.

for my mandarin i get the copepods to survive by feeding aquapharm 5 in 1 coral food which is essentially phytoplankton. feeds both corals and copepods.

try it!

Sorry for the hijack...

May i noe approx. how much phytoplankton to add to a 3ft tank for an increase in population of copepods? Is overdosing harmful? Am culturing the phytoplankton myself (Much thanks to equipment and advice from Acedolphin :thanks::D ) and was successful.

Also, how long i have to wait b4 there are enough copepods to support the Mandarin fish?

Oh .. my tank had cycled with cured LR(bought from fellow reefer) for 1.5 months liao.

Thanx :)

My suggestion is to dose slowly. Maybe one or two capful 2 - 3 times a week.

The fertilizer (if not used up completed) in your self cultivated plankton may fuel algae growth in your tank.

don't think its enough time for enough copepods to grow.....had my tank cycled for 2 months, mandarin still died of hunger.....

i think you need a big tank and lots for lr + maybe a refugium to support a mandarin.....

Same here. My tank is 6 months old with 140 kg of live rocks but my mandarin died too.

My Pyschedelic Mandarin now trained to eat pellet food! Formula Two marine Pellet seems to be the food of choice for it. :yeah:

Else can feed the mandarin live brine shrimp...mine takes to it like crazy...once a week treat... :P
