i hv used this b4, no noticeable results. instructions on how to use it is written on the packaging, basically is to put the appropriate amt into a filter mesh bag and put in ur sump. phosguard does claim that it does not affect other parameters.

I have no luck with Phosguard either, poured entire 250ml bottle into a meshbag , placed in a high flow area in sump , replaced twice but reading from JBL kit reads 0.25ppm. Now replaced with Fritz Phosphate remover don know how effective it is...

Hi,

Anyone know Phosguard really works to reduce the phosphate and also how to use this product? will it affect other parameter?

It worked quite well for me. I've poured my last 1/2 kg into a FR.... and after 2 days, PO4 went down to undectable levels... : ) It is rather heavy in the FR, so it sinks to the bottom, you won't see it fluffigate(sp), like the way ROWAphos would in the FR.

Trouble with Phosguard (although dependent on the size of tank, feeding habbits, etc...) is that it exhaust itself quite fast. I've used the 1/2 kg for one month, before PO4 start to climb back up again, now using ROWAphos. (actually, I've never tested it with another similar product... I'm presuming here, that 1 month is quite short period... I know soon enough though).

There is some mention on the toxicity release of aluminium if you used Phosguard.... http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/july2003/chem.htm

Otherwise it worked fine (for me!) ... good value for $$$$ when compared to the other iron-oxide base PO4 remover. Wouldn't mind using it again if ROWA does not live up to its hype.

Anyone dare hazzard a guess as to how fast your ROWAphos / Contraphos gets used up? Say for a given 180 l of tank with 10 fishes, 2 feeds a day + 2 l of top-up water.
