lighting issues

I had a discussion with a friend of mine of late over the use of MHs and T5s...

I'm currently thinking of selling away the 2x150w MHs I have and using 8x54w T5 instead. the power usage will be more or less the same *in fact less as T5s supposedly use 65% of the rated energy level...to quote that friend of mine*

the only reason why I would want to change is that T5s give me a better spread across the tank. and since I doubt I'll be going into SPS *well. okay maybe one or two frags to test test.* I thought T5s would be much better.

anybody has any comments? would like to hear both sides of the coin.

currently only keeping a semi-pathetic LPS/softies tank.

set up of bulbs will probably be 03xatinic and 05xwhite/aquablue/whatever.

IMHO, i would suggest u to continue using ur MH. only 1 simple reason, u r leaving for studies soon....... why waste the monies? 8x 54W doesn't comes cheapo too....... the monies can be put to better use elsewhere.

juz a friend's advice and 2 cents. ;)

(btw, this comes from urs truely who bought 2x sps on impulse juz days b4 i left for jepun) :P the colors were juz 2 swee, cannot resist. :paiseh:

coz I got...I think I better not say anything about the T5s deal/offer I have.

but some one is tempting me with a very good offer for replacement bulbs. when I mean good, I mean GOOD.

I don't want to give hints or anything or say who/what/when/what. but its an offer that if revealed, will probably have a lot of questions/arrows/flames coming my way. (=

How deep is your tank?

Are you currently running a chiller?

Do you like the MH glitter?

Current/ future live stock & corals plans?

I like the idea of T5s for a "budget" tank - excld initial costs- the fact that you can run it without a chiller. But pound for pound, I would prefer a MH for the punch and glitter. Looks more natural, esp under ice white bulbs.
