BIG SECRET Of Coralline Algae

I used caulerpa taxifolia and grape caulerpa for 6 months. As far I see my coralline not healthy besides My calcium level 400-440. And I think my calcium is enough for coraline growth.

After I read at RC forum that Caulerpa and green macro algae secrete materials which can inhibit coraline algae growth.In my opinion, caulerpa and coralline algae are a bad combination. Actually, I am now of the opinion that caulerpa really has no place in a home aquarium. There are many other algae that can be used to export nutrients that do not have the same problems that caulerpa has.

Assuming you have no caulerpa in your tank and you want to promote coralline algae growth, here are a few suggestions

After I remove them from my refugium. I see my coraline until now my coraline is healthy and start to grow.

FME (from my experience), coralline algae can still grow inspite of filamentous algae around. Both algae require different nutrients but the coralline algae will always be at a disadvantage because they grow very slowly in comparison with filamentous algae, thus it could seem like coralline algae is not growing.

Also, the conditions for good coralline algae are higher... better water quality and as for filamentous algae, it is usually the reverse, with more nutrients causing more growth in filamentous algae and less or no growth in coralline algae.

Bright light of the lower K spectrum will be more condusive to filamentous algae growth and it may even inhibit coralline algae growth.

how do you identify coralline algae and filamentous algae?

Coralline algae are hard, usually they are purple in colour.

Filamentous algae are soft to the touch and come off easily. A common type of filamentous algae would be Diatoms which is brown.
