Maximum number of tangs?

Hi all,

Just curious to find out mow much tangs i can keep in my tank? I've got 3 already but seems like my purple tang already doesn't get along very well woth my yellow and brown tang. Should i even contemplate getting more tangs for my tank?

Has anyone successfully kept more than 3 or 4 tangs in a tank??

Oh....hiya. So do you think its feasible to have more than 3 tangs in my 6ft tank? Really love tangs. Planning on a all tangs and angel only tank. Have you any success in keeping more than 3 to 4 tangs?

Bioload???? How do i control it?Will the cleaning crew take care of that or do you have to add something to control it??

By the way, do all your tangs get along well? Whats their size anyway?

All different sized but I try to buy smaller ones.

Control bioload? Either get a big skimmer or some other way of exporting nutrients, eg water change, refigium etc.

It's not bioload, you have to take care as tangs can be aggressive to other tangs causing stress

Thanks Weilong.....so how do you introduce new tangs to your tank? Mirror technique or is it just a matter of luck and that particular tang's personality? From experience, which tang is aggresive and difficult to co-habitat with other tangs?

one thing is that all ur current 3 tangs are zebrasoma, so i think that they are kinda "cold" to each other. try other types of tangs that are in acanthurus, naso...

how big are ur tangs? if u dont provide the info we cant realli help.

i mean if i haf a 6 footer and 3 1inch tangs, i could add like 10 more... so u gotta provide more info on ur tangs.

What do you mean by cold?? Does that mean it tends to get along well as they are the same species or do they tend to fight?

Used to have four tangs in my 2.5 x 2 x 2 living very well together plus flame angle, tomato clown, yellow warasse, bi-colour benny, gamma, cardinal, plus loads of mushrooms and LPS... Trying my luck I know....

Recently sold my sailfin and blue tang to somone with a 4 x 2 x 2 tank... the two tangs must be thanking their lucky stars now...

You mention acantharus? What are examples of acantharus? Sorry to ask such lame questions but limited books avail where i am. If i get anothere species tang, will size normally be consideration?

if keeping tangs u must have a mature tank rite?to mi keeping the acanthurus species must have a mature tank...especially if u intend to keep a PBT...btw your tnak how old?

from what i've read, i think powder blue tang is quite hard to keep. ICH problem could be quite regular. Any other examples of acantharus?

Anyway my tank is about 3 months old. I think still quite new but starting to get a but brave as all the livestock, that i've recently added( 1.5months ago) all seems to be doing well.

What about introducing a new tang? How would the mirror method work if you've already got quite a few tangs in the tank.
