Any other terrarium keepers

Hmm..after setting up this terrarium..the moss began to grow over a period of months. I'm using terrarium bedding which expands when soaked in water. I place it above a layer of aquarium gravel. Starting inhabitants include pygmy rasboras & a betta brownorum. Amazing the betta left the rasboras untouched. Did'nt even attempt to eat them. Today was at a FW LFS...saw these gems. Waited 1-2 years before seeing them in the trade again. Due to past experiences with the mandarin newt, knew they were not easy to sustain in captivity due to temperature and acclimatization. As my terrarium had been running for a few months, decided to rescue them from possible worse fate if sold to other people. They were just kept in a plastic tank with some water..so stressful for them. Now they are in my terrarium..have begun feeding on mealworms and crickets. Blowing a profantec fan to keep them cool (temperature around 26-27 degrees celcius now). Hopefully I succeed this time. Breeding? Rather hard in a tropical country..cause they need a dormancy period whereby temp is between 20 to 25 degrees celcius..maybe get them an iceprobe? :angel:

Whole setup pic. Using a 2ft normal five plan tank. Will be letting go 2 to people who can give them the care & attention. Going to keep 3 only. Don't wish to overcrowd them. They need cool temperatures around 26 degrees celcius and below.

"Tylototriton shanjing, particularly wild caught, really hate water - if kept too damp for more than a few days they invariably get sick. Captive bred ones are less sensitive to this moisture for some reason. You have to keep them only a little bit moist. Ideally, a moisture gradient should be present in their terrarium with lots of hiding places scattered throughout so they can find what they like best"

Thank goodness I did'nt leave them in the shop..

I used to have a terrarium for a bullfrog, fire-bellied newts and some other salamanders... I used small pieces of stones to press against the soil to seperate the body of water from the land... I had all sorts of mosses growing on the land... mostly I picked from trees etc and transfered to the terrarium... then they started spreading I kept guppies and fighting fish in the pool of water!

BTW about that thing u pmed me abt the last time, noone I know wants one anymore.. haha... tough luck... u try asking ur frens loh..

go get the firebellied newt... very sleek and cute... reallly got a nice bright orange fire belly too!

Oh...mine is moss used for FW planted tank one leh..using xmas moss.. :rolleyes: Thing to get them growing is to keep them humid by misting everyday. Anyway..ryz..i found someone to take over already..somemore a gal somemore.. :eyebrow: so no prob Fire bellied newt I kept before....will get them if I see them around. Last time use to have fire-bellied toads..loved those guys..hope can see them around again..But if I keep them have to set up another tank.. :pinch: I don't like to mix species lah.. might have diseases or incompatibility problems..

oh okok... good for u... I got two female frens also used to keep that thing leh... corn, calafornia king and a ball...

haha I have lots of christmas moss growing in my shrimp tank now... u want I can donate some Grow erect moss lah... erect moss will look nicer on terrestrial ground... christmas look better in water I feel

You still leave a dish to put food in ah? I used to just scatter around
