Coverage of a 250w DE MH...

Was thinking of using a 250w DE MH... But is the coverage enough to cover a 3ft x 2.5ft area... Without placing it too high thus reducing its intensity...

All depends on the reflector. My compacts are said to give a 40 inch spread 10 inches above the surface

I am using a 250 W DE giesemann. I am thinking of upgrading to a 3 x 3 x 2 or 2.5 cube with the same lighting set.

I think the spread depends on several factors:

1) lighting Reflector

I get this giesemann set the spread is quite standard - 2 x 2 - minimum residue lighting outside of this area

2) Aquascaping

If you have a 3 x 3 x 2 then the side panel will not have any lighting which might be a good thing as there will not be any diatoms growing on the panel. Provided your coral is situated in the centre.

3) height of lighting

As we all know the higher you go, the spread will be wide but the intensity will drop. But the standard recommendation should be at least 30 cm above the water surface.

4) Depth of tank

For 2 ft - 2.5ft depth - I think 250 can punch in ralatively easy with a 10K bulb - with standard height of 30 cm from surface.

But i think i will be using a DIY one... But i cannot find it ler... Hehe... Think will use the Viclite SE 250w... Unless got ppl know where to get the whole set of 250w DE... Hehe... Those who knows please pm me... Thkz...

Mine is just about 15 - 20 cm.

Hehehe, my 2 x 250W is 10cm above surface..........but i using 20K, so intensity not that great........
