between March and June 2004, i have bought separately a green, yellow and brown polyp. when these were in the lfs, they opened up very well .... which is why i bought them. :P

when introduced into my tank, they just don't open. :(

all my other live stock, roti prata, frogspawn, jewel, leather and finger doing good.

water parameters assumed okay (no details here) in view of other LS and corals surviving, eating well and looking good. :)

my tank 36 x 18 x 24" with a 24" sump and macro skimmer

with 2 x 150w MH, 2 x 39w T5 actinics

with chiller set at 27C

set up my tank since Feb 2004.

please give me some possible reasons why and any recommendations. :thanks::bow:

do u remember at which high the LFS placed this polyps?

it may be too near to the light source or some powerhead blowing at them. try shifting them to other location & observe for a few days. just my 2 cents.

I have a rock of brown/yellow polyps which i tot was dead cos I use it to stack my rockscape.......after I rearrange the rockscape, I place them where the lights can reach them & slowly the polpys starts to extend out........now its growing onto other rocks........

My polyps luv the light and I place them directly in front of my chiller output pipe which is abt 1000l/hr flowrate, & they are growing damn fast..........leave them undisturb for a few days where the lights can reach them, slowly they will come out.

What polyps are you referring to? Zoanthid polyps? Goniopora polyps? No one can really answer your question unless you are more specific...if not how would they know what you are referring to? :pinch:

Always something more important than fish.

Zoanthids are quite hardy but if they experience a sudden change in water conditions they will close up and take some time to open. I've had mine close up for weeks before opening due to dosing reef builder too rapidly in the past. Or look around for parasitic nudibranchs.

my guess is the phosphate levels...

i used to encounter this problem...they always refuse to open..when my other LPS seems fine..

they seem to be able to tahan rather strong current...mi was under the indirect wave from Tunze...the first corals to get the wave...yet they open happily....

so try testing for PO4?

maybe its the high phosphate...

hope they open soon....
