Hi..I'm from KL and just about to buy a macro skimmer. It's not the needle wheel cuz the dude from the lfs suggests the biggest macro and unfortunately, the biggest one is venturi. My tank is gonna be a 7ft FOWLR. The guy says that the one i'm looking at is adequate but i have my doubts...is my tank gonna be underskimmed? My tank specs - 7/2/2 and might be quite heavily stocked either with a bunch of lions or various species (not confirmed) Please help!

FOWLR tank does not really need a skimmer but if you want to have one is good also. There are not many choices of good skimmers in KL, go around some of the LFS and see what they are using, small bubbles, a lot of skimmate would be a good indication, you caanot get those skimmers that the members in this forum is talking about and thay cost more than $500 a piece for those beckett, Aqua C, H&S etc. required for a tank your size. In KL you can get a Taiwanese brand called Queen, heard that it is not too bad, 88 Aquarium do have a few big capacity skimmers, again yours is a FOWLR, it is not necessary to have the best.

I am too from KL,

I have seen marco skimmers from 88 marine

They have display units of weipro, marco side by side.

The unit with the compartments apparently is the best.

I have bought 1 myself and it has serve me well. Twice i place a market

prawn and skimmer started forming thick foams. in a 2ft

I used to have the skimmer in a 4ft, but due to moving house i switched it

to 2ft for time being

fowlr no need skimmer? than how do you do away with ammonia/fish waste?

you don't need a skimmer because you can afford to have a higher level of nitrate. Nirtate remove would then be via regular water changes. Canister filter would be good enough to remove ammonia/fish waste....

used to run skimmerless with nitrate going up to 100++ppm.....but now going SPS so no choice brought a skimmer...

Thanks for the info guys!

Yea..the macro i saw was from 88marine. You can't get beckett or aqua-c or h&s..the only one close to those is the red sea range and i've only heard crap about that range which is super pricey as well... So like if i'm choosing between macro, weipro and queen..which one should i get? The largest weipro is only for tanks up to 150gallon so that's probably out..suggestions?

On another note...do i need a chiller?I heard fish don't do well long term in water that's 30 celsius or higher? Fans don't work very well cuz of the humidity...

At the price of macros there it would be better to come to sg and shop around. Not much in price difference if you ask me..

um..I'm not sure i get it.. If there's not much in price difference, shouldn't i get the macro here in KL? Or do u mean there are better brands in s'pore that i can get for the price of a macro here in KL?
