How do you tune a H&S skimmer

Hi Guys

How do you best tune your H&S skimmer? I tune my skimmer on Sunday, getting the bubbles to form somewhere in between the neck, the air valve is fully open. Yesterday have a check and I see that the bubbles fall back into the main chamber. Immediately I see that the sump level has drop due to evaporation, so does that mean that the water level in the sump must be constant? Any tips of getting it to work?

Is yours fed with a powerhead like my H&S Euroreef?

If so, the sump water level doesn't matter.... but if yours is without... then you have to try to maintain sufficient water levels.

The valve to control the air is to tune the kind of skimmate you want to produce... ie. dry or wet.

yep, my is fed with the powerhead inside the sump, that is to say, the power head is submerged in the water. Do I just just play with the water output only? To get the dry foam, should I increased the air or decreased the air?

Get a pump that controls the amount of water going in.

Adjust the air inlet accordingly:

wider = more air going = more foaming action = wetter skimmate.

narrower = less air going in = less foaming = drier skimmate.

Be careful what you put in the tank... additives etc... as they may cause extra foaming, pushing more foam and water into the skimmate collection cup, causing an overflow.

I thought the Aquabee PH that comes with the H&S skimmer need no adjustment at all, in terms of water going into the skimmer?

oh... i mean the water inlet at the top of the pipe column.. it provides a countercurrent. I have a tiny powerhead pushing water in.

Maybe your model doesn't have this feature.

Does this skimmer need a special pump propellor head?

Something like a needle wheel type?

Can anyone comments about Tunze comline skimmer?

Does it suckz big time??

In fact, I bought a Tunze 3160/2 comline skimmer, but have not put in operation yet.

Don't tell me this skimmer is good for water aeration only hor... <_<

Hon, H&S skimmer has a flywheel kind of propeller, similar to the turbofloater by redsea. As for Tunze, I am not sure, but over in aquarealm, it has high rating, so cheer up

Where can I find this brand of skimmer in Singapore.

Do they carry the spare parts like foam collection cup, brush-like impellor and accessories?

Any idea how much these skimmer cost? I rough guide will do...

Hon, H&S skimmer can be bought at Sealife. There are 3 models available there and here are the price that I know, it may have change, so you need to check with them

A110-F2000, the one in the pictures approx S$650

110-F 2000similar to the above but in sump, approx S$600

150-F2001 approx S$850

do ask them if they still accept trade in of old venturi skimmer of any condition. Trade in value is $100.

Thanks for the info. By the way, seem like all 3 model is using aqee bee power head. Don't they carry those in eheim pump?

yep, all those uses a aquabee pump with a special flywheel. Those that uses 2 Ehiem pump will cost at least $1500 in my opinion. Give them a call and ask if they could bring in that model for you, should not be a issues as they bring in their stuff quite regularly from H&S.
