SRC Member JiaEn Posted July 20, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2021 How are you exporting nutrients? Also, what do you keep and how are you feeding them?

calvin f.h
Sorry what is nutrient export? No I never buy phosphate test kit.
SRC Member JiaEn Posted July 20, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2021 Do you do anything to bring down nutrients? Water change? Algae refugium? Carbon dosing? I think you should monitor your phosphate as well. It's as important, if not more important, than nitrate.
calvin f.h
Water change but only around 30% cos my is 1000L

I consider a result between 0.03 to 0.1 okay.Nutrient export methods are the ways nitrates and phosphates are "exported" from your tank. The quickest way would be small weekly water changes of 10-15% but I recommend getting an algae scrubber too. SRC Member JiaEn Posted July 20, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2021 You probably need calcium and magnesium test kits.

SRC Member Muw Posted July 20, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2021 Dose a good bacteria source like micro bacter 7/ dr tims products/ aquaforest -no pro with pro bio s. Then turn skimmer to wet skimming. Change filter wool frequently. In weeks your tank will go to a national balance. Also if you do not have enough rocks or media to grow bacteria get those. Im using maxspect blocks. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

SRC Member JiaEn Posted July 20, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2021 If there isn't much export, it's natural nitrate and phosphate will rise. How do you know there is good export? From collecting a lot of dark skimmates, or from algae growth in the refugium/scrubber Dosing bacteria can speed up the process, but ultimately, the nutrients must leave your system somehow. SRC Member dtdream Posted July 20, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 20, 2021 If both nitrates and phosphates are very high like yours seems to be, it’ll be good to do a bigger water change first. This will buy you some time to look into the other methods of nutrient export that JiaEn mentioned . And actually, a source of nitrates and phosphates (among other things), is our tap water. It is much more preferable to use ro/di water if you are not already using. Good luck!
SRC Member darryl82 Posted July 23, 2021 SRC Member Share Posted July 23, 2021 So if my phosphate is high isit means need to do more water change ?Weekly 15% WC change and bacteria dosing. That’s what I face after cycling. High Phosphate and nitrate, Very common after cycling. It took me 2 months to bring down. Next you are going to worried about diatom and algae issues.Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
