What coral is this?

Phang,

How is the condition of yours?

Mine is damaged quite badly when I first got it early this month especially all along the edges where some tissue were being scraped off due to poor shipment. The other pieces were smaller and in worse condition.

I bought it because I think it should be able to recover and thankfully, it did. Hopefully it will last from here on.

Sorta pity those smaller pieces though. Nobody with a practical mind will get them considering the cost as well as the damage already done. So they will just have to sit there and bleach itself out of the tank.

I asked LFS to sell it to me or to others at a "sympathy" price but sadly this is not the practice in the industry. Damaged, however bad, a montipora is still a montipora. If it has to die in the tank, then so be it. Sometimes I feel quite disillusion with this state of events but ultimately this is business concern I guess.

Pretty good condition,

except for small areas, will heal as time goes by...

Which LFS did you got yours for and how much???

SInce your piece is pretty large...

Mine is a smaller frag... but should grow soon. Montiporas are pretty fast growers.....once conditions are met of course...

Regarding buying damaged pieces, It's better to pay premium price than getting a problematic coral... cos might also affect those that are currently in your reef...

I have seen a whole batch of Acros RTN within 2 weeks in a LFS!!!!!! :(:(

Honestly, most LFS don't have the facilities, sometimes knowledge regarding these SPS... Many of those SPS in their holding tanks are jus sitting ducks unless they are sold off early to reefers and place in the right conditions..... :(

I don't believe you! Dogs are not reef-safe! If you can get Julian Sprung to say that dogs are reef safe then we can talk.
