My 2 x 250W 20K MH are mounted 4" from the surface of the water.......how much distance should my SPS be away from the MH light?

I notice my montipora digitata polyps not opening when I place it at 10" below the MH light............but when I place it at 20" below the light, the polyps starts to show..........puzzled me is I always tot SPS is happier with strong lightings........ is it just monti digi does not require such a strong light or is it the digi is still aclimalizing.........???

If its aclimalizing, how long should I leave it at the lower part of the tank? Should I shift it up to the higher zone after it aclimalise?

What's the danger zone/distance between the MH and the SPS? Have intention of stacking the rock scapes till 5" from water surface for sps placement..........will it be too near to the light, cos my MH is only 4" away from the water?

Need advices......

erm... wts684..... FYI sps corals live in areas that have light levels that is almost hard to replicate in aquarium..... so urs died probably not becoz of the light level,.... but i think u did not aclimitize it to your lighting level properly... and also ur sps can die due to many reason...... poor water quality ETC etc

Maybe a little close to the water. Try 8-10 inches for 250W MH, should be just fine.

My sps are no higher than 5/6 inches from the surface

I also wish I can hang 8" high, but my hood can only support 4" max :-(
