55W PL or 39W T5?

What's the differences between PL lights and T5 lights? Contemplating on adding 4 more tubes of PL or T5 to suppliment my 2 x 250W MH. My tank depth is 2.5ft & the sps placed from mid to top around 10"-20" inches from the water surfaces............should I use 4 x 55W PL or should I use 4 x 39W T5? Pls advice.......thx!

Tank dimension 36" x 18" x 30"

6" DSB with rockscape stack to 10" from water surface. Have intention to stack higher in future.

Currently using 2 x 250W BLV 20K MH at each side.

The difference is the heat!

PL is much hotter than T5, hence adding more work to your chiller.

hmm.... me support PL caused i'm using it and think that it is fine. The heat generation is not so hot compare to normal florecent tube. You can still touch it while its turn on..... I would say more heat is generated fom the ballsat especially if you are using metal ballast.

I think T5...after what i seen in Danno's tank!!!

anyway, the price of T5 has drop significantly and if you DIY it might even be cheaper then PL!!!
