I think unless you have a high bioload (ie. too many fish &/or too heavy feeding = too much nutrients) or you do not have a powerful enough protein skimmer to handle the size of your bioload input, its best practice to only need to change water 10% each fortnight (every 2 weeks). I know many reefers with successful tanks only change their water maybe every month or two. Its all about regular monitoring your water parameters and making sure each level is within acceptable limits.

30% every 3 weeks on average. Always maintain my nitrate level below 40ppm. having a 100gallon tank + 20 gallon sump. Mainly LPS with only 3 yellow tail demsel & 4 domino..... seldom feed them, they'll find their own food :whistle:whistle ...

All depends on your bioload and tank parameters. Water change will replenish the loss nutrients in your water as it'll be consume by ur LPS/SPS etc.

I practise water change once every 2 wks unless the parameters real bad, i'll do it once a wk

well...... IMHO, it all boils down to wat kind of corals u r keeping and wat's ur bio load like....... once u c nitrate levels creeping back up and staying there, do a water change immediately........

juz me 2 cents. ;)
