Copperband butterfly & Majestic angel reef safe?

Recommended Posts

Don't think your copperband will disturb your corals. They might disturb tubeworms though. As for the majestic angel it might go for the meaty LPS. Don't think they will disturb sps. Do note that angels might peck occassionally for algae which might disturb your sps polyps quite frequently. Should'nt be an issue if your tank is large. ;)

Always something more important than fish.

I guess it is due to the fact that some LFS owners claims that there are not reef safe. Another reason could be due to pricing, copperband are cheap as such people don't value them ($2 to $3 for a 1.5").

However, I have tried them are must say that they do not lack grace and beauty as compared to the more expensive fishes.

I have a white tube worm, 1 torch, 1 green frogspawn, 1 dougnut, 1 hammer and 2 LR full on zoanthids and the copperband did not bother them.

I guess there are just like Angels, 50/50 chances. When I got my flame angel there are people who have experienced of them being not reef safe but however, mine, like my copperband is still very obedient.

To me, I don't equate price to value. I always have a softspot for Copperband since childhood. So I really won't mind trying 1 or 2. The reason I have not bought any is because I'm worry that they may attack my coral. But seems like now I have bigger predector in my tank, which is the blueface angel. So I will start looking for a copperband. But I will try to make sure that it will eat frozen brine shrimp or mysis shrimp first before I release it into the tank.

Cheers,

Patrick

A very prudent move - we should ensure that the copperband feeds on mysis or other prepared food first before introducing into a reef.

Thanks for the tip, bro. ;)

hehehe...better than when it goes hungry and start attacking the coral right? By then you have to tear down the tank to catch the bugger.

Also, I always keep my blueface well fed so that it is not hungry. I'm hoping that once it start to like the food we feed, it will not go back to coral eating again.

I was away for four days and just came back yesterday. I thought my flame angel & copperband would have help themselves with the intvertebrates in my tank but to my surprise - they have behaved very well.

So I rewarded them with some lumpfish caviar!
