my timer on fire !!!

just wanna share somethings with u guys that my timer was on fire this evening after i just return from my work ....

luckily i was at home and put out the small small fire in no time or else wa lau ....

still dunno what cause it to burn but advice fellow reefer not to buy cheapo timer man ... aniwei i use the timer for less than 3 months only haiz

anyone have reliable timer to recommand ??

Kelantan lane there selling theben for ard $15. IMO electrical things better be safe then sorry. This type of things cannot risk one. Tank no more can setup again, house no more.....

haha..still can use...For my 250watt, i am using HAGER TIMER, So far, its good and accurature..I tried before the cheap timers bought from Carefour but too risky.

Hmm... I'm sure the lighting wire is without the earthing wire, right??

Most lighting comes with only 2 wires, neutral and live. So better bond the fitting with earth wire and check your timer comes with earth too. Most china made pumps doesnt come with earth wire too. That is why i am afraid to use that unless i earth them. But they are all sealed tight, cannot modify it.

most two pin plugs electronic items are double insulated. check for a symbol of a square within a square, probably on the appliance itself. this is to serve as a defence mechanism against short circuiting. like an earthing process itself.

besides, if proper earthing must be done, you must dismantle the whole appliance to fit an earth wire to the plastic casing, and then drag another extension line through the cable itself to the earthing point on the plug.

so just check if your double plugged items are double insulated.

actually double insulation is just protective insulation on top of a functioning insulation.

double insulation means that the accessible metal parts cannot become live unless two independent layers of insulation fail.

i was there to listen to the szzling sound, smell the burning scent, see the smoke and spark...................

my suggestion to all reefer tat DO NOT PLACE THE SOCKET ON THE FLOOR OR ANY WHERE NEAR THE TANK WHERE WATER MAY REACH IN WHAT EVER WAYS..........RAISE THE SOCKET UP USING CHAIRS OR TIED IT TO SOMEPLACE TALL...................SO TAT WHENTANK OVERFLOW WATER WILL NOT GET IN.....

SOME PPL LIKE TO PLACE THEIR SOCKET ANYHOW IN A VERY MESSY WAY...........

TRY TO SORT THOSE WIRING UP PROPERLY.....................

TIDY IS A GOOD PERCAUTION TO FIRE AND ELECTRICAL HAZARD............

To add on, for those running DIY MH and install directly into the tank hood? pls monitor your hood, as my hood was smoked and blackout, heng no ###### flame.
