b4 i remove the sand bed.. i notice this stuff... thats when i thought cyano is only reddish in colour, however after some reading and advise from fellow reefers, I confirm its cyano. U may wan to check out my separate thread regarding this issue, most reefers confirm its cyano...

jus wait for a few more days, if it crumble like a fish cake.... den i guess its cyano, it will gets darker n darker....

Anyway, found out why my CR is not giving enough kH to my tank

I should increase the effluent rate as the CaHCO3 is just being recirculated in the CR with my previous drip rate

Now that I've increased the effluent rate, the kH levels are beginning to climb up

Now why didn't I think of that earlier

Ok, the sandbed algal bloom had reduced to this small patch here

BH, the coraline encrusted sandbed looks very odd... pretty no doubt. I'm curious, can you check this out for me... insert a stick into it... i may very well be wrong, but it looks like its hardening on the surface ... well its very difficult lot to grow coraline on soft-substrate...

Yes, very soon u will be able to pick it up as a piece, like the thin version of fish cake

I forgot its scientific name but its common name is elephant ear or elephant coral.

Will help you find out its real scientific name ASAP

bro, no wonder you're losing kh fast... it all going to the SB now. ... on a side note, do keep a watch-out for that sb.... you don't want it turning dysfunctional, while very pretty looking, those encrusting coraline algae may turn your SB into a slab of sand... before long.

but then again, if that happens, you're just gone BB naturally.
