I'm beginning to hate the BLVs

To yellow and cannot bring out some coral colours

or could be your eyes tuned to 20kk lights so 10kk appears yellow.

Need lights to bring out colors? Might as well run pure actinic.

Haiz.... algal bloom did not subside after a month now

Was thinking whether dwarf hermits can help me clean things up

I have also changed my photoperiod:

9am to 3pm----T5s on

3pm to 9pm----MHs on

9pm MHs off

10pm T5s off

This way, I reduced the MH running time to 6hrs and extended the T5 running time to 13hrs

Considering the BLV 14k or Phoenix 14k or the most, BLV 20k

Need some suggestions from you guys here on the choices

BLV 14000K is very white, no blue on my pendants, the Phoenix is blue or blue white depending on the ballast.

Switched from BLV 10,000K and cant say either had any effect on algae and my tank is covered in red algae

U really dislike the colour of the BLV 10K??? i am using it too..at first a bit dislike , but now, used to it..The PAr value is much greater than the rest of the bulbs u mention

Not True. the BLV 14kk has equivalent PAR I think.

Just change 2 of my bulbs to BLV 14k. Or rather change for a week already.

Very good stuff. Nice crisp white hue. Gotta wait a few more weeks to see if it has any adverse effect on coral but at the onset look really good. Running with magnetic ballast. My centre bulb still running BLV 10k on an eballast......it runs whiter than the 10k previously on my magnetic ballast.

Should give the BLV 14k a try.

The 14k is whiter as appears to the eyes which means it either has reduced red to orange in the spectrum or increased green to blue in the spectrum.

In the first case means reduced PAR while in the latter means similar PAR. Or they could have produced a bulb with overall higher PAR than the 10kk too. Nobody knows until some reefers have test it and now we wait for Scarab's feedback.

No change on the red algae from the switch from 10 to 14K.

The 14K BLV is really white and bright, certainly as bright as the 10K, but whiter. Still early days, but i have the same corals under both the Phoenix and BLV(same colony), at the mpment the Phoenix has the edge on colour.
