Going to change my bulbs to a Phoenix soon

And the T5s to Aquablue Special

I'll sacrifice growth for colours

Basically I've seen people with nice acros under the Phoenix. One even had a green bodied, blue tip tenuis colour up 2ft into the tank :yeah:

Anyway, found out that my mille is not receeding due to the chiller issue.

Check out who I caught feasting on polyps

BH,

Just to share my personal experience. The phoenix are really worth a try though. I changed from blv to phoenix lately and it really coloured up the sps very nicely. But I feel the growth has reduced but not considerably as compared to blv. But then again, my tank is only 2 feet and and all the sps are the most 5 inches away from the water surface. So maybe they might still be getting sufficient light. Overall, I'm happy with the phoenix bulb. Gives the whole tank a cooler and bluer effect too as opposed to the yellowish tint from BLVs. :)

What do you think of tanks running of actinic only?

All the corals glowing :P

But put under 10k lighting? No more colors.

Haha I ran my tank solely on actinic for 3 days when my chiller was down.

And true enough, some SPS darkened and some showed signs of browning. But from what I know, coral farms overseas usually run 20k bulbs and their SPS look amazing.

I think it is the intensity problem. T5 actinic still cannot be compared to a 250w 20k

I'll just try it anyway and if my acros brown up, I'll change back to the BLVs :P

Mellow, how long have you been using the phoenix? We need longer time effects.

I personally know of more than 5 reefers that had been using the phoenix but eventually switched to other bulbs with higher PAR.

Your SPS are 5" from the water surface so the PAR is still sufficient for the SPS.

I've heard bleaching issues from the BLV 14k :(

From what I know, the Phoenix brings out the blues and greens, little on the reds <_<

Here's a pic of a Leng Sy under Phoenix 14ks ;)

But the BLV 14k is a white bulb right?

That means the SPS will look brown?

Tell you guys what, I try the Phoenix and see first. I always have spare BLVs in the storeroom

what I meant was.. using BLV 10k (or maybe 14K BLV) will bring out the colour even more than phoenix 14K(personal experience). Add more T5 to have the "luminous effect". If u r using phoenix 14K alone, try look at yr corals when the MH is not on. I'm not saying P14K is not good but u may need to place yr corals higher as Mellow.

A sps placed under BLV 10k and P14K - I swear P14K looks better

oic, sorry for the misinterpretation

I was looking between changing to Phoenix and adding 2 more blue T5s

But I got bought over after checking out some reefers' tanks under the Phoenix.

I've also seen a reefer's tank under over runned Phoenix and although the SPS look a little dark but the colours are still awesome.

Now I am trying an experiment as frags from the same colony of purple digitata looked different in another reefer's tank than mine. Mine looks brown but his is really nice purple.
