How many of you actually wash the kalkwasser bottle everytime you mix fresh kalkwasser?

what I did is to pour freshwater into the kalkwasser bottle, stir, add new kalkwasser powder and stir again. So I'm adding kalkwasser all the time.

Anyone knows the effects of such usage?

thanks alot

Unless you drip the whole content of the kalkwasser into the tank (which is a big no no!) there will be some residues left in the container and this residue can cause calcium carbonate to precipitate out of your fresh kalkwasser causing a decrease in calcium saturation of the kalkwasser. It is better to at least rinse the container every time.

My container is just a water scooping bucket, and it has a thin layer of calcium on the bucket walls. Does this affect the quality of newly mixed kalk water? I tried scrubbing it, but it was like cement!!! :pinch:

Hi Wedgee,

Yes, the thin layer will encourage crystalisation of calcium on the surface, a process which will export calcium out of your kalkwasser mix thereby lowering your calcium content. Overtime, you will notice your "thin layer" will eventually become thicker.

What you can actually is to use vinegar to melt it down. You'll find scrubbing it off easier that way. Of course, clean your utensils throughly after that.
