I have a Red Sea Prizm. It gives very good skimmate only when you are not tired of tuning and tuning. And I have been tuning and tuning! :)

Whenever you need a pic of my skimmate just let me know, I'll take a pic of it and post it here. :D

Of course can't be compared to the hassle-free AquaC Remora. They are a few hundred bucks apart anyway! :D

But my recommendation is still to save up for the AquaC Remora. I'm still not tired of tuning my Prizm, so will keep it for a little longer.... :D

Why do you keep tunning the skimmer? I don't <_<

Anyway, IMHO I would prefer the air-lift more that the prizm as it produce better skimmate than the prizm. The advantage of the prizm was that I need to clean the cup only one a week for my 4'x1'x2' tank.

Ya, true, It's because the cup is quite big that's why only need to clean it once a week. Mine is a 4x1.5x2 ft tank.

For the tuning part, I need to fine tune it everytime I perform a twice monthly 20% water change. And in between, I occassionally fine tune it too to get the skimmate I want below. I guess every few days, the water condition or quality differs so need to fine tune it to skim properly. When I first bought it, I only tune it once and left it alone and I usually get either green tea or chinese tea coloured skimmate. Below are the photos I just took. I'm curious, if you don't tune yours, do you get skimmate like mine too? By the way, I just changed the rubber tubing in the first picture that's why it looks so clean and new. :)

Mine all the while is Ooloong Tea.

You change the tubing of the internal or external? Any major differents in the skimmate?

I don't tune it that frequent is bacause whenever I feed the garlic soak feed/ CT to my fish the skimmate would definitely stops and it will only skim again in like 1 to 2 hrs time.

Oolong tea was what I used to get too until I started fine-tuning! I changed both the internal and external ones. Skimmate no difference before and after. Unless the tubings are choked I think! I changed them because both tubings are dirty that's all. :)

Question:

Is the internal tubing suppose to be connect to the base? As my don't. Same like the picture. (Stole the picture from hecker, hope he don't mind)

Actually, that's what I thought! :P

Before I changed it, I also noticed the tubing is not connected. I thought after months of usage, it shrunk. So when I replaced it, I cut a longer piece and connected it to the bottom. :P

Maybe someone with a brand new Prizm can check his set and let us know? :)

Just found the answer to my own question.....

It's on page 5 of the Prizm manual para 8 Maintenance. The air tube is suppose to be connected to the Injector Nozzle below.

But then it still won't help with the skimmate, this is for priming purpose. :)

If you read blu_surf right, he/she is always tuning the prizm to get the best skimmate.

Anyway, thanks blu_surf for the clarification. Maybe will change the tubing this weekend and fine tune again.
