I hv a reef tank about 4mth old but recently sold off all my LPS corals. Now left my 3ftX2X2 main tank running with 50kg of LR,2.5ftX1.5X1.5 sump tank, chiller and micro skimmer.Im thinking of keeping just marine fish but not sure my current equipments able to support the fish need.Below are the few Q would to ask, thks.

1.Whats the max fish can I keep(size 2-4inchs)

2.Do I still need chiller cos in the nature marine fish live in cold temp,if yes what

temp should I set?

3.Intend to use 2X17000k dymax T5 lights for above setup or should I get daylight?

4.Im using JS150 micro skimmer(not needle wheel type)is it enough to support

above setup?

Hi

good to go for the FOWLR setup- will cut down on costs. My two cents...

you can keep approx 10 small fish and 5 big fish, maybe more if you upgrade your skimmer and feed sparingly.

Junk the chiller and go with fans. Sell or trade in for better skimmer. Lots of people clearing their non becketts now... good deals to be made. Besides, fish should be able to tolerate wider temp fluctuations than coral

Run 1X10kk and 1Xactinic tubes for max colour.

Stack your LR to max water flow and filtration.

Main issue is your skimmer. Although technically fish is more hardy than coral, never hurts to upgrade the skimmer to a more effecitve one.

Hope this helps

cheers

If you are running T5 and it fish only, you wont need to use a chiller. Abit overkill, if you want to just lower 1 or 2 degree, get a fan will do. As the heat generate by T5 is not as high as mh/pl

With 50 kg of rock and the skimmer you using, IMO i will only keep 6 (4 inches) the most......

I think i still need chiller cos when my tank in cycle stage with just 1 reture pump and 1 eden 228 pump the temp shoot up to 30deg without chiller.I dont want to use fan cos top up water very often. For lighting I think will get 1X12000k and 1X17000k dymax T5.Btw any suggestion what best skimmer should I get for my setup?

The chiller option is indiv choice. No worries there.

Skimmers can be quite subjective- try to go for a 2nd hand deal to cut costs. AquaC and the HS seems quite common and reliable. SOurce around for suitable one within budget. :)
