Why not consider COE cars. Just pay for the instalment for COE? There are reliable cars like the old model of corolla, 323 estina or even a swift. Most of the COE car prices mthly instalment is less than $400. Think with the budget of $700 you have, its well within ur budget.

But if u gonna get the old civic (eg. EG6 etc.), then prepare to pay more as these cars prices quite high too. :) Road tax will also increase as your car goes older.

In a way now that new cars are much cheaper to get (only on the surface looks of it with the no downpayment thingy), 2nd car prices drop quite abit due to more ppl getting new cars.

Do consider wisely, owning a car in Singapore is not easy. Its a BURDEN, not an INVESTMENT! :D

 thanks everyone on their informative suggestion.......

will go down 1 of these days to look out for more information from those dealers.

seriously me only want to get some form of transport, be it new or old.... as long dont too expensive...... reason for getting car is because company is giving out the car allowance if you own a car..... else every month allowances is only $50 dollar.....hehehehe if can find a car under budget then better, make full use of this transport allowances.....else i take public transport, every months also hundred over dollar.

sigh still paying off my studies loan to my uncle.......

hmmm jesperlam, you mentioned coe car...... but do those seller sell their car just based on the coe remaindents?? normally they will ask for a price on their car itself also right????

Please be told that COE cars carry a Road tax surcharge which can go up to 150%.

In today's poor resale market, used cars of 3-7 years go for very cheap, almost paper value. I think they are better value than COE cars in view of lower tax and maintainence.

suggest u go n view some used cars dealers.

just short list wat u can afford n narrow to a few models.

it does get confusing with many suggestions here offered, especially

this is not a car forum.

do not believe the price of advertised cars in the papers.

usually prepared to pay another (at least) $5-6K.

best if u know someone who are in car dealing, let u test car

with no obligation.

I tested a few cars, mazda, ford, toyota, nissan, before deciding

to go for my this old nissan. so far happy with it. 2nd hand car,

prepare another $1k at least for some major overhaul.

Another thing is to get the resale car tested by AAS/Vicom before committing.

Juz my 2cts

won't b easy.

u got to bear the $100+ survey fees. n the dealer will allows u tat?

most 2nd hand cars have wear n tear. if go through checks, definitely

got things to replace.

better to get written agreement on any wear n tear replacement b4

paying money.

The insight details of COE cars i'm not very sure about it...but like what Chris bro had mention, the road tax is $$$$. The owner will defiantely ask for some returns as of $$$$ also. :D Eg. a down payment of $2-3k?

But must also bear in mind the maintainence of these COE cars. Imagine its already being run for 10yrs and still running...and theres no scrap value for COE cars.

Ic ic      sigh , money money and more money :pinch:

If you were to buy a car that costs $75,000 (Average price of a 1.6L) and take $50,000 finance over 7 years at 2.2% interest, it will come up to be about $687 per month for 84 months.

if u look ard. there's COE car expiring at 08/2011 going for cheap.

depreciation value of $3k+ a year. dirt cheap. imagine u got spare of

$2k each year to play with on maintenance n repairs. that's more

than enuff.

no need to go for new car if first timer car owner. surely kenna

scratches n u drive first few months, veri gabra gapo.

For cars of more than 10 years.....depending on previous owner's care. Can range from ok to trash.

Every major repair on engine goes in thousands. My bro 11+ year old civic SIR engine stalled cost 2K+. Not to forget, suspension, timing belt, aircon compressor, brakes etc. The take turns for you to burn pocket. Some more some previous owners trash the car and never service...then die standing.
