D-I-D's new Pacific Coo Chiller Investment

Specifications under which chiller required to cool:

* Tank size - 1000L water vol. + 200L sump

* Mini reef with mixture of LPS, softies & 32in. of fish lifestock bioload.

* Current heat gain from MH lighting – 348W comprising 150W x 2 + 24W blue x 2. - Looking at possible future upgrade to 1600W.

* Current heat gain from pumps - 2xMD55, 1xMD 70, 1xDupla 3500L, 1 Eheim 1250

- photoperiod: blue actinics ON for 14hrs (10am-midnight)

MH ON for 8hrs (3-11pm)

Specifications of new Pacific Coo chiller compressor:

- made in USA with 1 yr warranty, assembled in Singapore

- Horsepower: 1.25 Hp

- Gas: R22 Disp/Rev: 31 cubic cm

- BTU: 8400/hr Load running Amp: Max 6.47A

- utilizing a bigger copper heat exchanger coil (24ft) …meaning more than sufficient for effective heat transfer when paired with the 1.25Hp compressor.

- for better ventilation, unit sited in covered garage porch 2m from tank via 30mm dia. Foam-insulated tubing.

- approx. initial performance note on installation day (19/4): every 10mins, digital temp. dropped 0.1 oC, ie. extrapolating … it took 3½ hrs to fall towards set time before compressor cuts out.

Monitoring compressor “rest” & startup periods on 25/4

5.10pm: 26.5 oC

6.10pm: 27 oC (compressor cuts IN)

9.10pm: 25 oC (compressor cuts OUT)

9.45pm: 25.3 oC

10.15pm: 25.5 oC

Monitoring compressor “rest” & startup periods on 27/4

- interval of 3 hrs in ON position

- interval of 4 hrs in OFF position (as temp. gradually rises fr. 25-27oC) until compressor kicks in when digital thermometer reads 27 oC

- internal temp. gauge put in tank reads same temp. as temp. on digital display on compressor. Super accurate.

Despite the distance away from the main tank (piped 2m to front carporch), it still manages to cool 3 degrees in just 3hrs considering the number of pumps in use in my system.

The whole unit measuring 73x54x38 mm is relatively silent during the ON interval when compared with my previous Teco 680 0.5hp unit. Also note that the readings were taken during the onset of an unusually hot period. Hence to say that if the chiller retains its current efficiency, it should be working less hard during lower ambient temperatures in the months at the end of the year.

In conclusion, I would like to say that overall, my new chiller investment is operating as promised and I am very satisfied with its performance. From my now 2-month experience with Pacific Coo chiller brand, it has lived up to my expectations and come out a winner. It has proven to be very good value for money when compared to equivalently powered, more expensive imported units.

yea a picture would be nice... cause I'm thinking of getting one... hey DID, do they have 1/4 hp chillers? or all heavy duty 1/2 hp and above one??

OK, I'll try to take a picture today but ... its just a square grey box panel with the thermostat on the top and ventilation on the outer side. Ryz, I'm sure they do all the standard sizes, just PM Cookiemunster who should be able to advise as they will evaluate all the relevant variables like tank size & heat gain and taking into account future expectation for your tank and then make a recommendation on the chiller capacity you should aim for.
