WTB :Check Valves

I am currently looking for check valves. Come across those ball type - and was quoted 20 bucks for one. Anybody using this ? and how reliable are they.

It would be great if you could share with me where you got them and for how much.

The main purpose is to have the check valve on the return and also some piping work to ease my water changing task.

If possible fully automated with solenoid for water changin -- that's my dream.

y not juz get a union ball valve...when u are changing water, shut the valve loh...

anyway, wat i heard is that ball valve only reduces the back flow...it doesn't completely shut it down...

Anyone know when using a checkvalve, how many percent of the flow from return pump to main tank is reduced?

And what type of good checkvalve available ( price and where to get them).

I have seen OB selling those pvc ones at $6-10..are they good?

The water from the pump has to push against either a spring or a weight so that in event of pump failure or off in purpose then the spring/weight return to normal position to close the valve. Further, if you look closely at the internal channel of a Y-check, it is angled, so more head loss.

Best is to avoid it if possible and they do not give a perfect fit after some time due to slime coating of the rubber gaskets.

hm... i think the spring type will cause severe head loss... go for ball types but each cost 30+ bucks!

I think it is the 1.5 inch ones. Maybe too big for you.

Just call Hai Cheong, 16mm or 1/2 inch check valve (ball type) $20.50

that's the smallest size. Anyone knows is there alot of head loss with this type

of check valve , and is it better to place it further away from returm pump or nearer for min head loss

If you're worried abt head lost then get a larger sized one like 3/4" or 1" then use reducers.

i've just got two 1" ball check valve from Hxx Cxxxxx, it cost $26 each.

Have installed it for my friend, the head lost is not noticable.

25mm = 1" check valve (grey pvc) .....It's available. Juz call them before going down to cfm stock holding.
