Hi everyone...

am going to buy a Resun chiller... either a CL450 or a CL650

I am having a total 420liter setup (tank+sump) and running T5 4x39watts lighting.

Will a CL450 handle my need or i need to get a CL650?

I gathered

CL450 = 450watts / 450 liters tank (S$450)

CL650 = 650watts / 650 liters tank (S$550)

any advise please...

LR :thanks::bow:

Strongly recommend CL650. These Resun chillers are cheaper and of lesser. Oversizing them will certainly not hurt, it will just reduce their working time and extend their lives.

I got a 4x1.5x1.5 tank + 2x1x1 sump. It chills it by one deg in less than 10 min (no MH yet)

Resun information got from the Resun website (Resun Chiller)

My is a 36"x24"x24"(Tank) and 30"x18"x16"(Sump) ... total litres after minus liverock, sand ... should be around 400litres of saltwater.

Looking at the website's information... Resun CL450 can cool a <450litre tank setting for 22DegC or <700litre tank setting for 25DegC

Maybe a CL450 is enough ... but then a CL650 (capable for <1000litres for 25DegC) can cut down the On/Off frequency and also requires lesser time to cool the tank... Hmmmm .... :(:(:( ... which to choice?

how about noisy level ? any one has any idea ?

I have a 100 gal tank (quite similar size with yours) and I'm using Resun CL-450 chiller. I set it to stabilize the temperature around 26 C. It's been doing the job quite well. I tried to lower the target to 24/25 C, but I notice it's working much harder and longer than usual, so I decided not to try it anymore.

If you're targetting 26/27 C for your tank, I guess CL-450 is more suitable and you can save the extra money for other stuffs. Otherwise, CL-650 should do the job better. Hope this helps. Cheers! B)

twrs, yes your feedback helped... :P

By the way, your CL-450 at 26degC is doing the job quite well...

Can you give a bit more details..

How often is the chiller turning on/off (example: in every 15mins ?? and each time when it is turned on, it run for how long (example: 10mins?) ...

This info pretty much help me to decide whether CL450 or CL650 model.. :thanks::thanks:

I thought CL650 is 1/4hp??

how come it used 650watts n is good for 650L..??

where u get such information?

bwilly,

yes i too find it strange... CL650 is a 1/4HP and the spec should then be 250watts rather than 650w specified in their website... hmmm ....

maybe i should feedback to Resun (i am exchanging email with Resun China's representative).

:D

generally 1HP = 746watts (some website information says 1HP=1000watts)

as such for a CL650 - 1/4HP chiller... should be 186.5watts ??

Am i right ??..

Wa.. make a lot different to my electricity charges ley ... :D

the specs does seem wrong..

looking at my hailea manual, 1/4hp can only cool up to 260L tank..

1/2hp is up to 380L. (rated up to 16c - 380L tank)

From the performance curve, my 1/2hp can go to maximum of 16c of a 380L tank. It can cool 28c up to a 700L+ tank.

I wonder how a 1/4hp (CL650) can cool a 4ft tank which is abt 120gallon or 450L? And the wattage and 1/4hp does not seem to match.

At the price of $500+ for a 1/4hp - cheap, can cool 4-5ft tank??

How come nobody go n buy??

Maybe new technology n improvement?

agreed..

wonder who is using Resun CL-650 (new batch) to clear our doubts...

hmm ... seems like Resun's website over boost their chiller performance.

Most 1/2hp can barely chill their 4ft with MH blasting..

this new batch of 1/4hp seem to be able to do better..

Most 1/2hp better chiller start from near $1k onwards.

Resun 1/4hp if can perform better and at almost 50% cheaper than is veri good seow..

do you think the new batch of Resun Chiller CL650 so solid? with just 1/4HP at 50% cheaper and can do the job of a 1/2HP unit?....

I think i share the same sentiment as you.... :)

sigh... started off this topic so that i can decide which chiller to chill my 400liter tank+sump .. now end up back to square one.. :(

I'm using a CL 650 for my 250L tank.

Working ok till lately... ;) Turns on very often now.... :( switches on/off 2-3 X/hr

it has no prob for chilling my tank down to 23 (tried once to test the efficency), my chiller placed outside my house with good ventilation.

Tank w all equip running: 33 degrees

but after chiller: 25-26

Gota check my bill this coming mth, and see if i shoud get a ext. temp prob.

*** think the temp prob not very good :erm:

Did you see how the rate the chiller?

They actually run the chiller w/o any heat load with that certain amount of water then wait for 16 hrs for it to drop to that particular temp. Then you have your rating there already :P

With the heat load in our tank, I think the chiller cannot deliver :P

Hi,

I have a CL-450 only 3 months old, selling at $390.

It is from the new batch, black in colour. The new batch is heard to be better, but i know quieter for sure.

Running on a 100 Gallon tank with halides. It is quiet and in good condition. The noise only from fan. Should be no problem for your tank, if your on a budget why not give it a try. I am selling to upgrade to maybe Artica(More stable temp). PM me if interested.
