Question, upgrade lighting (sps tank)

Recommended Posts

At present my aquarium of 300 liters (75g.) is composed by:

;)

2x150w MH

bulbs- lifetech 14.000kº

and actinic 36w

And I have determined to change the iluminacion for my SPS and to put:

1x400w MH

bulb BLV 20.000kº

and day light 10.000kº 36w

What do you think?

The change will be positive? The lightbulb that seems you?

Thks!

Actually maybe you can consider 2X250W? It will help to spread the lighting more evenly across the tank. I feel that if your tank is not very deep (2ft or below) there is not much difference between a 400W bulb and a 200W bulb in providing sufficient light intensity. There is only a certain maximal amount of light that will be used by corals for photosynthesis (everything has a limit). Any excess light will simply be wasted (as in not used by the corals). If you are going to stick to a single 400W bulb you will have to get the correct elevation to have a nice spread of light across the entire tank surface. Just a point to ponder over. ;)

Always something more important than fish.

I have been looking at...

and it rejected the possibility to mount the 400w

They are presented me two possibilities:

2x150w (14kº) and 1x150w (20kº)--center

1x150w (14kº) and 1x250w (14kº)

Which you think that it will go better? for my sps

PD: I present myself to change the lighting reason my sps finish all green and blue

:nc:

I rather go with the 400W MH (with spider reflector) with a few T5 tubes enhancing the coverage ....best of both world ;)

if u wan wider or more evenly spread light and dun mind the slight yellowish tint, go with 2x250W 10K and use a pair of T5s to do supplement.

if u wan bluish looking, take 14k but less intense.

using 1 or 2 MH really depends on the width of you tank.

if got chiller budget and a hardcore SPS collecotr, etc... go for 2x400W. u can never give them enuff light in an aquarium!!

Not sure how expensive electricity is in Spain but if it's affordable go for

2x400W (10KK) + 1x 250W(marine blue/radium)

and supplement with 4 T5 blue (2 in front and 2 behind).

The 10KK will be very yellow but the marine blue and blue T5 will balance it nicely.

Electricity is at a premium in Singapore so I'm using

2x250W (10kk) +1x150W(marine blue) and 4 T5 blue for my 3.5 ft tank. :D
