New 2 ft aquarium set-up!

Guys! I purchased a 2 ft yank yesterday. I intend to keep it as a FOWLR tank. These are the accessories I use for the tank:

1. Jebao Aquarium, model 3018, flowrate 1200l/h, 180 cm

2. Rainbow Aquarium Lighting, size 60 cm. (it has 2 separate bulbs, one white, one blue. is this called PL lights?)

3. Superpro skimmer, model AA525

4. Aquapharm dual phase formula sea salt

5. Rainbow Teiou Glass Rings

6. Biopure new strongest bio-filter media

7. Seachem matrix premium natural biofilter support media.

Items 5, 6 and 7 goes straight into my canister filter in that order.

Currently my water output is a normal 'rainfall' kind. I want to change it to a wave matter instead. I thought it looks mor minimal and might benefit my aquarium more.

Pls advise me on any improvements I can make. Thanks!

In my humble opinion, for 2ft, it will suffice with canister filtration - just to share, configuration can also be : bottom layer use coarse grade media followed by carbon, phosphate remover, wool, and poly filter.

hmm..... 2 feet tank eh..... are u going for a DSB ... imo if ur glass is thick enough go for 1.5 inch...... erm..... not that canister is bad or anything..... but as time goes by... we get lazy to dismantle the canister filter....... resulting in fish being slowly poisoned..... so if u can get a sump..... if u cant..... have a strict discipline timetable..... and follow it religiously....... hope it heps.... what type of fish u going to keep ????erm... talking from experience..... but now proud owner of a sump....

you, without a hint of doubt, WILL, DEFINATELY, get sick and tired of dismantling the canister! get IAN's overflow or diy one... another dude DIYed his overflow BTW, maybe u can go check it out at the DIY section. a sump is a better option... moreover, a 2 footer with a skimmer occupying 1 corner dosen't sound sweet... ;) my opinion only lah but it's really up to you...

IMO, a canister is not enough even for a 2ft.....

somemore if your skimmer is not powerful enough.... you will soon experience lots of algae growth.

I think the lighting you mentioned is a FL light not PL.....

:P did you get you stuff from Rainbwo at sreangoon norht

Reefers.....all good advises I must say......

I started my 2 footer with a cannister and $12 air stone protein skimmer and 1 Luo Han FL light.... .

The thing is that Yuji, you need to see if you can sustain the passion about this hobby or else you will end up spending too much money and then giving it up. Do some reading up on SRC pinned thread for newbies.

Start slow and steady....we are all here to help you. Everything voice down to your budget. I started my 2 footer with a $200 budget only....... hehehe......:D ...reason because I didnt think I will be passionate about reefing.....but end up..... <_< ....:lol:

IMO... canisters are enough..... i know lots of bros in and out of the club who used canister filter

guidelines if u want to have a canister filter

.must wash it once a month(in SEAWATER)

. have a good deep DSB

.have a limited amount of fish(most ppl would recommend 2 but i reccomend 3 small fishes)

. have a good skimmer.... i would recommend either prizm or weipro series

.lastly..... water change are IMPORTANT..... while u water change siphon away the detritus off the rocks and sand(those brownish dust)

. feed sparingly....

. have a good discipline and avoid adding even one fish..... simple corals whith low light requirements are ok to add.....

hope it helps....... :peace:
