Miracle Mud

Hello all, am in the process of planning a 3 ft marine tank upgrade and is interested in installing a sump. As I am also planning to include a refegium, i have been doing some research on it.

Recently I saw in various forums about this new product called miracle mud and was wondering how effective is it and also what is the quantity needed for a 3 feet tank? Also its rather expensive at hundred plus dollars per 10 pound bag and I was told by a LFS shop that was recommending me the use of miracle mud that I need at least four 10 pound packets for a 3 feet tank. Thats a hefty sum of money!!

Anyone got any comments.

I am currently using MM since Jan 2003. I have seen my corals giving me max polyp expansion. You can have a look at my tank (Marineman's tank) to see for yourself.

As i have not used a refugium before this and I have not tried using sand for my refugium, I cannot compare the difference between using MM and sand for refugium. I have not seen brains and meat coral expanded so hugh in other people's tank vs mine. My hammer propagate as well.

I have also read some negative comments about MM, but it works well for me, it's expensive and need to change 50% every 2 years. I am contemplating using sand when I upgrade otherwise I will need at least 40 lbs at $175 per 10lbs is costly. am aware of other hobbyist keeping successful tanks without MM.

With MM I do not add any addictives at all other than kalkwasser for top up and seachem's reef builder for maintaining KH, that's all. For more info you can visit their website at www.ecosystemaquarium.com

Thank you all for ur replies and sorry that I posted in the wrong section. Still very new here so am trying to navigate my way around the place. Anyway Im asking about Miracle Mud not becoz I am

1) Advertising

2) Putting it down

Im enquiring coz its a very new and expensive product to me and would like to know more before venturing into it. For one thing I was asked to buy 4 packets for a 3 feet main tank.... and the person didnt even ask me what is my sump size.... abit dodgy to me.....

Despite some negative comments about MM, although i have not tried it - i use something similar called Bio-Sediments in my refugium. Its been almost 2 months since i have used it and my fishes are telling me they are very happy :paiseh: (too much drink).

Anyway, MM or Bio-Sediments, they are better-off using it in the refugium. Its not for use in the Main Tank although u can if u want. Better to top off with some coarse sand, surface area neede for it to "react".

3 cents worth
