ok i know i can use chlorofoam to join acrylic together, but issit safe if u just use that alone? especially if u wana make an acrylic tank, surely additional reinforcement is required?

can we use silicone as well?

The idea is to make it strong and ensure no water leaks out...comments, anyone?

PS: i read from US webbys that we can use this product called weld-on #16 but i doubt we have it here... :P

(mabbe i should ask my stewardess fren to get  )

As far as I know, chlorofoam is a control item. Not found easily at shops. I bought a 1L bottle of acrylic glue (liquid) from Dama at Ubi but it does not bond acrylic well enough. I don't think the one that Dama sells is chlorofoam. Maybe anyone here can tell us whe to get it?

can't totally agree with chlorofoam. B'cos i have tried it. It holds good but have you try taking apart the acrylic after gluing them with chlorofoam?? I did! and with not much effort.

Use Acrifix, much stronger. If you can get weld-on 16, it'll be better, bcos it can be used for gluing acrylic to pvc.

Just one more thing...I'm no expert, juz to share something i found out.

i feel that acrifix will be good if u are thinking of glueing acrylic with pvc but as for acrylic to acrylic, chloroform is still the best....but the correct preesure applied when joining and the room temperature as very important elements....

dun ask me specifically wat room temperature or preesure, i also dunno....

i did ask an expert in acrylic b4, he said he used purely chloroform but did not tell me how to use it properly...if done accurately, the join will not split, the whole acrylic will break instead....

i am also trying to DIY a skimmer, also in the same dilemma as creetin.....maybe we can discuss through PMs???

chlor is actually works by melting the two surface and later join as become one single plastic

in order to do a 100% join of acrylic using chlor

the surface to be join must be SQUARED to each other........

meaning it must be straight and PERFECTLY flat....

then a good joint will be produced

b 4 u do any joining u must

1)file the surface to straight

2)sand down the surface to remove scratches usind coarse grade sand paper prior to the more finer one..

3)clean the surface to remove oily particles or sanding dust

4)DEPEND ON SKILLS TO JOIN........!

me no skills therefore canot make good joint!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

it writen on the bottle acrylic glue is for ppl who dunno wat is it for

is actually acrylic glue.....................

SKILLS and effort must be put in alot in order to make a perfect joints.................

hands-on cutting of acrylic is not tat precise

in order to be perfectly SQUARED, better go for machine cut....................

or even LASER cut.....................

then we will be convince by the power of chlor...................

did you achieve the perfect join (bubbleless)? i did, after some practise.

Acrifix will form a very hard layer when it dries, just like weldon 16, Chloroform won't. If you try it you'll understand Y i say acrifix or weldon 16 is still better.

And you won't have to seal it with silicon. Anyway silicon doesn't adhere to acylic well. ;)
