How to shift clam?

Well, couple of weeks ago bought some clams, decided to place them high up on the rocks so as to have my 250W mh over them.

Problem is the clam already attached themself to the rocks, so how to shift them now? Use force and pluck them? Thanks

No... dun use force.. see i the clam is loose with only its byssal thread attaching den you can use a scissors to cut the thread(as close to the rock as possible)... if the clam is tighly attach den dun remove it or either remove the rock that it is attaching

Better use a sharp razor... gives a cleaner cut and can get as close to the rock as possible... better still just move the rock together with the clam

In my own experience (tried many many times), if u wana remove a perfectly healthy and growing clam, it is possible to use simple prying. Wat i do is make the clam close up, and then proceed to slowly, very slowly pull the clam up from the rock. Dont make any big movements cause it will risk tearing the upper part of the threads.

If u pull slowly enuff, the thinner and lower parts of the thread will break off and the clam is removed safely with just a few threads left behind on the rock.

I am offering this solution of mine because very often, u either encounter a very strong clam (dats wat i always get) which pulls itself very closely onto the rock making it impossible to even use a razor to cut the threads, or the rock it is attached to is impossible to remove....

This maneuver has its risks, so if u have to use this method, do it with the risks in mind k!

I tried to pull the clam just now. Yes, did see the thread sticking to the rock. The thread gets longer the harder i pull but didn't come off, no heart to pull it some more. Will try the razor method tomorrow.

move the rocks with it. razor may hurt it if not done properly..

a risk I won't take.

Maybe your clam is happy at where it is that's Y its sticking so hard on the rocks?

Finally manage to pull the clam off the rock that she has attached. No injury or so, clam open up nicely on the new location. Thanks again all for the advise really appreciate it.
